back to top Artist Statement

Over the past twenty years I have brought my physical travel experiences together with my meditative journeys in my studio. I primarily work with nontraditional materials gathered from diverse worldwide locations. I begin by surveying an area of interest and collect soil, plant material, stones, pollen and other organic substances. This collection is transported to my studio where the items are ground together, added to wax, resin and oil in attempt to preserve an area of landscape. I add to the mixture gold, copper leaf and graphite and apply to wood panels or canvas. I envision and I attempt to recreate a "sense of place" which is emotional, tactile, atmospheric and serves as a visual record of nature's constant state of regeneration and flux. Abstract form allows me to present elements of change and their transformative evolution into sublime.
